Katelynn's Birthday, the 1st Day of School, and a mishap with Vaseline

Katelynn loves her Uncle Jake!

Monday was a very nutty day in the Stromberg household. It was the 1st day of school as well as Katelynn's birthday and my two year old was behaving well like a two year old. We started the day off with a french toast breakfast and sang happy birthday to the birthday girl. Then the three oldest finished getting ready for school and we went outside to get pictures of them on the 1st day. Parker was very embarassed because we were making such a fuss out of it being the first day of school and he was way too cool for all the fuss. He is 9 going on 16. After we finished with the pictures I walked to school with the kids and took Parker and Carson to their class which was to Parker's chagrin. He wanted to walk to class with his friends. After we dropped the boys off Ashleigh and I headed to her class. I could tell she was a little nervous, because she was holding my hand (I should say that she had a death grip on my hand) and she was extremely quiet. Those of you that know Ashleigh know that this is very abnormal for her. I was able to help her find her desk and give her a kiss and a hug goodbye. As I was walking out of the classroom I was suprised to find tears in my eyes. I was not expecting to get emotional because even on our best days Ashleigh and I struggle seeing eye to eye and very often we need to have a break from one another. It was nice because after the 2nd day of school she ran right to me and gave me a huge hug and said I missed you and the truth is I missed her too.

Later that day, about two hours before my family was coming over for cake and ice cream for Kate's birthday, I was sitting on the couch folding clothes and I thought Katelynn was downstairs playing with Ashleigh, but I soon found out that was not the case. She was in the hall closet and had found a large jar of vaseline which she proceeded to rub all over in her hair and body. She used the entire jar. I spent the next hour cleaning vaseline out of her hair and the carpet. I never quite got it all the way out of her hair. If you look at the pictures of her with the pink shirt on it looks like her hair is wet, but it is like an hour after I had gotten her out of the bathtub. Also look closely at the pictures of her in the bathtub the water is actually beading up due to the vaseline all over her. She is glistening. You get the full effect if you enlarge them. I washed her hair about 20 times with dish soap, baking soda, shampoo, vinegar and just about anything I could think of that would possibly get the vasoline out, but she still managed to look like the Joker (Heath Ledger) from Batman in her pictures. Today is Sunday and the first day that her hair doesn't have a greasy appearance. I also got video of her right after I caught her in the act. My dad said she reminds him alot of his mom, my Grandma Bev. Watch the video and see if you can catch the resemblance.

In the second video listen for Max and his best singing voice.

That is my worst fear with the vaseline!!! I'm sure it's bound to happen as the children come along and life gets busier... :O

Katelynn is so big! It's a good thing your post title included her name or else we would've thought she was a mini-Ashleigh. She is so pretty.

2 more weeks!!!

Dang it. I can't believe I missed such an event. You know who she gets it from right.....Kyle. He used to do that all the time, but he used the butter from my log cabins. Your daughter is a champ. And if you do make it to missoura roll up here to the great corn fields of Iowa.

Hi...It's just Jane going through Ali to find you. Your blog, pictures and dialogue are WONDERFUL!!! We miss seeing your family. About the vaseline...cute little Ali did the same thing at about the same age. NOTHING took it out. I finally called my hair dresser friend who told me to gently sprinkle baby powder in it and let it absorb. (Avoid getting it in her eyes.) BINGO! It worked. Then just wash it out with shampoo. Just for future reference! Ya never know!!!
Thanks for letting me check our your blog. Jane, The Mom of Ali.

I'm so glad that you've joined the blogging world! It helps me not feel so homesick, since we still get to see some of what is going on at home.

The whole mishap with the vaseline sounds pretty crazy! Kellen laughed forever! Then I gave him crap about the log cabins, and he shut up! Anyway, those pictures are great! I can't believe Kate is 2! It seems like it has gone by so fast! Anyway, your kids are so cute! Even if the boys are taller than me! (Did you see that picture from the wedding?) Miss you guys lots!! Come visit us anytime! Just one big MidWest Party with Josh and Ali, and us!!
